Blog Post Title One

It all begins with an idea.

When it comes to soccer kits, we could be here forever. Iconic, political, infamous, pimped out…if there’s an adjective, I have an example.

But we ain’t got all day and we aren’t getting any younger. So I’ve chosen a few that — in my humble opinion — represent all faces and facets of fútbol.

1. Boca Juniors 1981 home kit

What is there to say about this kit other than the obvious? Diego Armando Maradona’s first jersey for Boca Juniors. That same year, Boca went on to beat their rival, River Plate, with a goal by none other than Maradona himself.

2. Brazil 2002 home kit

Brazil’s 2002 home kit outfitted the best team that ever existed. Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Roberto Carlos…enough said. This kit also saw Brazil win their 5th world cup, beating Germany 2-0.

3.  Fiorentina 1997 away kit

They say only 300 of these kits were produced and that no one ever saw the “Fiore” play in it. To get an original kit is almost as hard as winning a Series A trophy with the Fiore. Love it / hate it, this jersey is one for the books.

4. Manchester United 1994 home kit

When the Premier League was created, there was one team that stood out. A team that would go on and win the league’s first two titles consecutively, MUN.  This kit also marked the team’s first league title in 26 years. To see Eric Cantona in this fit makes me feel something special. Might need a minute after this…

5.  Arsenal 1991-93 away kit

The famous “bruised banana”. A kit that won infamy when first released and was named “the worst of all time.” Twenty years later, it's considered a classic that inspired countless others. Surprisingly, it’s still available for purchase despite Adidas changing the pattern.

6. Club America 1994 home kit

Mexico’s most (in)famous club, Club America, is known for many, many things. Controversies regarding money, players, and owners are just the start. All feelings aside, they’ve given us some of the most important moments in Latin American fútbol.

The club’s 1994-95 season home kit gave us a uniform that epitomized celebration. Honoring its nickname, the “Aguilas” (Eagles), this kit’s beautifully designed pattern is best remembered for covering the back of a player as iconic as the club, Cuauhtémoc Blanco.

7. Cameroon 2002 sleeveless kit

In 2002, we would be spectators of a kit never seen before. Cameroon’s 2002 AFCON (Africa’s cup) kit that was, in fact, a vest.

A jersey that caused so much talk, they decided to stitch on black sleeves when the team played the world cup that year in Korea. Fortunately, the story doesn’t end there. Later in 2002, not being satisfied with the sleeveless kit, Cameroon decided to evolve it into an actual “onesie.” A short and top one piece uniform that got them fined $154,000 USD and knocked 6 points off their qualifying round at the world cup. Worth it IMO.

Kits are one of the biggest, most memorable parts of this beautiful game. Countless colors, designs, sponsors and logos that speak volumes of the times and the trends, the players and the clubs, the victories and the losses.

Sure, I can’t confirm or deny these are the most memorable kits that ever existed. But each mark a milestone of change in fashion’s influence on the sport itself.

Gracias, fútbol!
